a soft reset month.

Hello peeps!

January always shows up with that loud “new year, new me” energy.
But for me, January 2026 wasn’t about reinventing myself overnight.

It was more like… a soft reset.

A slower start. A gentler pace. A quieter kind of clarity the kind you only notice when you stop rushing long enough to hear your own thoughts again.

not a sprint. Just direction.

Instead of stacking dramatic resolutions, I went for something simpler: direction.

Less pressure to be perfect.
More space to be consistent.

And honestly? That already feels like a win.

a new chapter: moving to Vlaardingen.

And right in the middle of this “soft reset” month, life decided to add a big plot twist: moving house to Vlaardingen.

Moving is one of those things that looks simple on paper until you’re surrounded by boxes, wondering why you own so many random cables, and realising you somehow packed your scissors… inside another box… inside another box.

But there was also something exciting about it.
A fresh start in a new place, new streets to explore, new routines to build, and that feeling of “okay, this is the next chapter.”

winter does what winter does.

There’s something about winter in Europe that makes everything feel cinematic by default.
Grey skies, soft light, quiet streets, the kind of cold that makes you appreciate a warm drink like it’s a life achievement.

And then… Rotterdam decided to surprise me with snow.

Yes! Snow in Rotterdam.

The city looked like it had been edited with a dreamy preset. Everything got quieter. People walked more slowly. Even the usual chaos felt muted, as if someone had turned down the volume on reality for a bit.

living life like it’s content… but also not.

I still had that creative itch, filming, writing, saving clips, noticing details.

But what felt different this month was the mindset.

Not creating because I must.
Creating because I want to.

Less “post it now.”
More “Let me enjoy this first.”

And that shift? It felt healthier. Like the content finally matched life, instead of life chasing the content.

a Heidelberg kind of moment.

One of the highlights: Heidelberg.

The kind of place that makes you slow down automatically. Old town charm, river views, and that calm, romantic vibe that doesn’t try too hard.

And yes, I had my little main-character moment on the Heidelberg funicular (Heidelberger Bergbahnen) — heading up for those views that make you pause and just go:

“Okay… life is actually happening.”

choosing the sustainable version of myself.

January also reminded me of something simple but important:
Taking care of myself has to be sustainable.

Not extreme. Not dramatic. Not punishment disguised as discipline.

Just… listening to my body, respecting my energy, resting properly, and building routines that don’t collapse the moment life gets busy.

Closing thoughts

If January 2026 had a theme, it would be this:

A softer start doesn’t mean a weak start.
Sometimes it’s the smartest way to begin.

Between winter calm, small adventures, and the big move to Vlaardingen, January didn’t need to be loud to feel meaningful.

And if the rest of the year keeps this energy, calm, intentional, quietly confident. And I’m here for it.

Speak to you soon,

EMIR xx
